Hello

I’m Jamie, a software engineer by profession and a photographer whenever I get the chance! I came to software through design, progressively getting more and more technical.

In 2022 — after eight years as a developer — I started to burn out. I took some time away to spend with my family, and found my photography hobby becoming a second career. Food photography became a large part of my work, alongside a personal project which focussed on “Makers”. Writing software never fully went away, and after a couple of years I was ready to return.

This website has been many things over the years. In November 2024 as I stepped back into software, I “retconned” all previous blog posts, newsletters and essays into one place. All old URLs redirected here, to madebyjamie.com.

Writing code professionally again allows me to justify a more bespoke website — every developer needs a toy-project to experiment on! This has meant removing the newsletter functionality temporarily, but send me an email if you’d like to be notified when it returns.

I live in Cornwall, United Kingdom; but am originally from the small island of Guernsey. Living by the beach it’s hard not to spend lots of time in water, usually surfing.
